Homeless Prevention

COMMUNITY UPDATE

For those in need of assistance, Gov Phil Murphy’s Executive Orders prohibit the eviction of tenants or the foreclosures of mortgages while the COVID -19 state of emergency continues. While these orders remain in effect, we are prioritizing COVID-19 related emergencies. Requests for rental and mortgage assistance are being reviewed, however, please expect a delay in response time for non-COVID-19 related issues.

Anyone in need of immediate assistance may (732) 775-0525 and leave a detailed message and telephone number. Calls are being returned within 24 to 48 hours. Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time and stay safe.

Interfaith Neighbors’ Homeless Prevention program was the organization’s founding program and has been in operation for 30+ years. In a normal year, the program assists approximately 350 families with between $500,000 and $750,000 in direct assistance. Currently, we are experiencing very high levels of requests for support  from individuals and families whose incomes have been affected by the COVID-19 response.

We are providing daily reports to Monmouth County and coordinating with the State of New Jersey so we are positioned to access additional funding when it becomes available to assist COVID-19 affected families in need of financial assistance. We are also working with private grantmakers to identify additional support.

We welcome any gifts to support our Rental & Mortgage Assistance Program and families adversely affected by the COVID-19 health crisis.

Helping Monmouth County Families Remain in Their Homes and Avoid Homelessness

Our Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program is designed to help prevent homelessness and provide financial stability to those living in Monmouth County.  After a qualifying interview, those accepted into the Program may be able to receive assistance with rent arrears, mortgage payments or security deposits.

The Program is designed to assist families or individuals who are experiencing a temporary crisis that results in unanticipated expenses or loss of income.   We screen hundreds of potential clients each year, giving referrals to those who do not meet our eligibility criteria.

We help over 300 families every year and run an “Adopt-A-Family” Program each holiday season, collecting and distributing donations of toys and gifts to many of these families.  Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring one of our families.

Those seeking assistance can contact the office by phone during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.   Acceptance into the Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program is determined upon completion of a phone intake assessment, followed by an application.   A determination is typically made within seven to ten days.  Contact us to learn more about our program.

We can be reached at 732.775.0525.
