Rental & Mortgage Assistance

Interfaith Neighbors’ Rental & Mortgage Assistance program was the organization’s founding program and has been in operation for 30+ years. In a normal year, the program assists approximately 350 families with between $500,000 and $750,000 in direct assistance. Currently, we are experiencing very high levels of requests for support  from individuals and families whose incomes have been affected by the COVID-19 response.

For those who have been impacted financially as a result of COVID-19 and are in need of financial assistance, we have two funding programs that can help.

Interfaith Neighbors has received grant funding of over $400,000 from the US Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CAREs Act) to assist those financially impacted by COVID-19 with rental, security deposit, and utility bill assistance. Interfaith Neighbors has also received funding from area foundations and individuals and families who want to help, allowing us to establish our COVID-19 Emergency Financial Assistance Fund that assists with rent, mortgage payments, utilities and other urgent needs.

If you require assistance due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, fill out the screening form below. You will then be contacted by a program representative to progress in the application process if you qualify.

Interfaith Neighbors also has several programs to assist those who are in need of rent or mortgage assistance, not necessarily as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis. These programs and how to access them are described below.

We welcome any gifts to support our Rental & Mortgage Assistance Program and families adversely affected by the COVID-19 health crisis.

Helping Monmouth County Families Remain in Their Homes and Avoid Homelessness

Our Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program is designed to help prevent homelessness and provide financial stability to those living in Monmouth County.  After a qualifying interview, those accepted into the Program may be able to receive assistance with rent arrears, mortgage payments or security deposits.

The Program is designed to assist families or individuals who are experiencing a temporary crisis that results in unanticipated expenses or loss of income.   We screen hundreds of potential clients each year, giving referrals to those who do not meet our eligibility criteria.

We help over 300 families every year and run an “Adopt-A-Family” Program each holiday season, collecting and distributing donations of toys and gifts to many of these families.  Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring one of our families.

Those seeking assistance can contact the office by phone during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.   Acceptance into the Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program is determined upon completion of a phone intake assessment, followed by an application.   A determination is typically made within seven to ten days.  Contact us to learn more about our program.
