Rental And Mortgage Assistance

COMMUNITY UPDATE

For those in need of assistance, Governor Murphy has signed several Executive Orders which prohibit the eviction of tenants or the foreclosures of mortgages while the Covid -19 crisis continues. While these orders are in effect, we are currently prioritizing all other COVID-19 related emergencies.  Requests for rental and mortgage assistance will continue to be reviewed, however, please expect a delay in response time to non-COVID-19 related issues.

Anyone in need of immediate assistance can call the office at (732) 775-0525 and leave a detailed message. Please note that due to the high volume of calls, your call may not be returned on the day it is received.   Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time and stay safe.

The COVID-19 health crisis has resulted in many families in Monmouth County facing an economic crisis. Much of the Monmouth County economy is hospitality/service-based; one of the first industries to be affected in the response to the crisis. Many individuals and families have either lost their employment entirely or are facing greatly reduced hours.

Interfaith Neighbors’ Rental & Mortgage Assistance program was the organization’s founding program and has been in operation for 30+ years. In a normal year, the program assists approximately 350 families with between $500,000 and $750,000 in direct assistance. Currently, we are experiencing very high levels of requests for support  from individuals and families whose incomes have been affected by the COVID-19 response.

We are providing daily reports to Monmouth County and coordinating with the State of New Jersey so we are positioned to access additional funding when it becomes available to assist COVID-19 affected families in need of financial assistance. We are also working with private grantmakers to identify additional support.

We welcome any gifts to support our Rental & Mortgage Assistance Program and families adversely affected by the COVID-19 health crisis.

Helping Monmouth County Families Remain in Their Homes and Avoid Homelessness

Our Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program is designed to help prevent homelessness and provide financial stability to those living in Monmouth County.  After a qualifying interview, those accepted into the Program may be able to receive assistance with rent arrears, mortgage payments or security deposits.

The Program is designed to assist families or individuals who are experiencing a temporary crisis that results in unanticipated expenses or loss of income.   We screen hundreds of potential clients each year, giving referrals to those who do not meet our eligibility criteria.

We help over 300 families every year and run an “Adopt-A-Family” Program each holiday season, collecting and distributing donations of toys and gifts to many of these families.  Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring one of our families.

Those seeking assistance can contact the office by phone during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.   Acceptance into the Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program is determined upon completion of a phone intake assessment, followed by an application.   A determination is typically made within seven to ten days.  Contact us to learn more about our program.

We can be reached at 732.775.0525.
