Springwood Avenue Rising

Springwood Avenue Rising

Background

The activities occurring in Asbury Park between Monday, July 4 – Friday, July 10, 1970 can only be summarized by saying it depended upon who was being interviewed or who was writing the articles as to whether they referenced the event as a riot, revolt, or a civil unrest.

Vision

In collaboration with Westside Citizens United, the 50th Commemorative Anniversary will highlight the positive changes occurring in the City of Asbury Park- Neptune Midtown with great expectations and hope for the future.

Mission

The 50th Commemorative Anniversary will realize its vision through community planning and collaborative efforts that recount history while honoring and paying tribute to residents and former businesses that comprised the Springwood Avenue Corridor.

Goal

The Springwood Avenue Rising Committee intend to create and offer a variety of opportunities for all community members to participate in the SPRINGWOOD AVENUE RISING by offering experiences that will honor the past, celebrate the present, and prepare for the future.

Anyone interested in sharing personal memories, photos of  the Springwood Avenue corridor prior to 1970 or is interested in joining the committee, please send an email to [email protected].
